It's Spring again. The earth is like a child that knows poems by heart!

“It is spring again. The earth is like a child that knows poems by heart.” ~ Rainer Maria Rilke

May is Wildflower Month in the San Juan Islands. Forest floors, hills and fields are carpeted with Buttercups, Fawn Lilies, Blue Camas, Indian Paintbrush and Chocolate Lilies, to mention a few of the over 50 wildflowers native to the archipelago.

Above picture was taken on Yellow Island, an 11-acre gem, situated in the San Juan Channel east of San Juan Island.  Yellow Island is a nature preserve open to the public daily year-round. Due to its size, the isle was never grazed and hardly subjected to invasive species, which contributed greatly to the immense diversity of wildflowers and native grasses.
