On a recent whale & wildlife tour with the Western Prince we encountered K25 feeding. K25 is a male member of the K-Pod, one of the three families making up the Southern Resident Killer Whales. K-pod is the smallest pod.

It is very hard not to have an incredible time on San Juan Island. Where else can you feel a thousand miles away from it all, on a remote island, after only a 45-minute flight from Seattle? Where else can you enjoy sophisticated big-city culture and kayak with the Orca whales?

Rarely do you find a getaway which has it all. 

The perfect spot for a romantic getaway, may not have wild outdoor adventures. When there are plenty of things to do for the kids, there may be a shortage of high quality restaurant or interesting art and culture. The best places to fish likely have limited shopping or cute boutiques.

The San Juan Islands with their inspiring nature and wildlife are home to more working artists than anywhere else in Washington State. There are seven galleries and five museums in walking distance to Friday Harbor’s ferry alone.

This is Big Mama, otherwise known as BCY0324. Humpback Whales were the most widely-hunted species in our area and hadn’t been seen for 100 years until the nineties. 

Beautiful San Juan Island is famous for exquisite whale and wildlife watching, for boating, kayaking and fishing, and just about anything having to do with the Salish Sea.
